Each year the Greater Phoenix Urban League holds an annual dinner to celebrate the legacy of Whitney M. Young Jr. (1921 – 1971), an American civil rights leader, who spent most of his career dedicated to ending employment discrimination in the United States.  Whitney M. Young Jr. was the driving force behind the transformation of the National Urban League from a relatively passive civil rights organization into one that actively fought for equitable access to socioeconomic opportunity for the historically disenfranchised.

The award ceremony was held of Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
